  10.        Your copy of WebMagic Author requires a software license in
  11.        order to access the Pro features. These feautes include
  12.        image map creation, form creation, background image and
  13.        color editing, and insertion of a text file as a table.
  14.        This chapter defines some important software licensing
  15.        terms, describes the basic procedure for obtaining,
  16.        installing, and testing a software license for WebMagic
  17.        Author, and lists addresses and phone numbers that you can
  18.        use to contact Silicon Graphics License Administration.

  22.        detailed information on obtaining, installing, using, and
  23.        administering software licenses.  It is included in the
  24.        system software documentation; the online version is in the
  25.        subsystem _n_e_t_l_s__e_o_e._b_o_o_k_s._N_e_t_L_S.

  27.        7.1  _A__F_e_w__D_e_f_i_n_i_t_i_o_n_s
  28.  
  29.        A _s_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _l_i_c_e_n_s_e is a collection of information that,
  30.        after installation, allows you to use a licensed software
  31.        product on one or more systems.  The software license
  32.        information includes the license type, the license
  33.        expiration date, a license password, and system
  34.        identification numbers (_s_y_s_i_n_f_o and serial numbers).  You
  35.        can get a system's sysinfo number by giving the command
  36.        /etc/sysinfo -s.  The license must be installed on the
  37.        system that has the sysinfo number included in the software
  38.        license information.  If the sysinfo is ``Any,'' the
  39.        software license can be installed on any system.

  41.        There are two types of software licenses, _n_o_d_e-_l_o_c_k_e_d and
  42.        _c_o_n_c_u_r_r_e_n_t, and two durations of software licenses,
  43.        _t_e_m_p_o_r_a_r_y and _p_e_r_m_a_n_e_n_t:
  44.  
  45.        node-locked  A node-locked license is installed on a
  46.                     particular system (node) and allows the
  47.                     licensed software to run on that system.
  48.  
  49.        concurrent   A concurrent license allows the licensed
  50.                     software to run on one or more systems in the
  51.                     network simultaneously.  The number of systems
  52.                     (nodes) allowed is included in the software
  53.                     license information.  The system on which a
  54.                     concurrent license is installed must be
  55.                     configured as a Network License Server.  Any
  56.                     system on the same network must be configured
  57.                     as a Global Location Broker.  (See the _N_e_t_w_o_r_k

  77.        temporary    A temporary license allows you to use the
  78.                     licensed software for a short period, typically
  79.                     a week to several months.  The expiration date
  80.                     tells you the last date on which you can use
  81.                     the licensed software.  Temporary licenses are
  82.                     often shipped with software so that you can use
  83.                     the software before a permanent license is
  84.                     issued.

  86.        permanent    A permanent license allows you to use this
  87.                     release of the licensed software for a very
  88.                     long time.  For example, an expiration date in
  89.                     the year 2038 indicates a permanent license.
  90.                     Permanent licenses are issued only for software
  91.                     that has been purchased.

  93.        7.2  _O_b_t_a_i_n_i_n_g__a_n_d__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_i_n_g__a__S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e__L_i_c_e_n_s_e

  95.        This section explains the procedure for obtaining and
  96.        installing a software license:  checking to see if you have
  97.        received software license information, determining if you
  98.        need to install a license, requesting software license
  99.        information if you need it, identifying the system on which
  100.        you will install the license, installing the software
  101.        license information, and verifying that the license is
  102.        working.

  104.          1.  Check to see if you have received software license
  105.              information.
  106.  
  107.              Software license information is distributed in several
  108.              ways:  on labels attached to a Software License
  109.              Registration card, on sheets of paper included with
  110.              the product, or by mail, FAX, or electronic mail.

  112.          2.  Determine if you need to install a software license.
  113.  
  114.              You may or may not need to install a software license
  115.              for WebMagic Author:
  116.  
  117.                 +o If you only want to use the base features of
  118.                   WebMagic Author.
  119.  
  120.                 +o If you are simply updating your system to this
  121.                   release of WebMagic Author, you may not need to
  122.                   install a new license at this time; your
  123.                   already-installed license may continue to work.

  141.                   a permanent software license, install the
  142.                   permanent license; do not install the temporary
  143.                   license.

  146.                   should install it because it enables you to use
  147.                   the software that you have purchased.

  149.                 +o If concurrent licenses are used at your site and
  150.                   you plan to use an already-installed license, you
  151.                   can install and use the licensed software on your
  152.                   system without installing a license.

  154.                 +o If you have received a temporary software license
  155.                   and do not need to use the software immediately,
  156.                   you may choose to wait to install a license until
  157.                   you obtain the permanent license.
  158.  
  159.          3.  Request a software license if you don't have a
  160.              software license at all, or if you have a temporary
  161.              license and need a permanent license.
  162.  
  163.              To obtain a software license, fill out the Software
  164.              License Registration card that was included with the
  165.              software (or the replica in the _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _L_i_c_e_n_s_e _S_y_s_t_e_m
  166.              _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e).  Send the information or the
  167.              card by electronic mail (preferred), FAX, or mail to
  168.              Silicon Graphics License Administration or your local
  169.              service provider (see the next section for addresses).
  170.              After your request is received by Silicon Graphics or
  171.              your local service provider, you should receive a
  172.              software license within two business days.

  174.          4.  Identify the system on which you will install the
  175.              software license.
  176.  
  177.              Because software license information usually must be
  178.              installed on a particular system, follow these
  179.              guidelines:
  180.  
  181.                 +o If the sysinfo is a number, identify the system
  182.                   that returns that number as the output of the
  183.                   command /etc/sysinfo -s.  (It may be easier to
  184.                   identify the system using the serial number,
  185.                   which is included in the software license
  186.                   information.)

  188.                 +o If the sysinfo is ``Any,'' you can install the
  189.                   license on any system you choose.

  212.          5.  Install the software license (temporary or permanent).
  213.  
  214.              Check the ``license type'' listed in the software
  215.              license information to find out whether the license is
  216.              a node-locked license or a concurrent license.  The
  217.              installation procedure depends on the license type:
  218.  
  219.                 +o If it is a node-locked license, see Chapter 3,
  220.                   ``Installing Node-locked Licenses,'' in the
  221.                   _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _L_i_c_e_n_s_e _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for
  222.                   instructions on installing the license.

  224.                 +o If the license is a concurrent license, you may
  225.                   need to configure the system on which you plan to
  226.                   install the license as a Network License Server.
  227.                   If there is no Global Location Broker on your
  228.                   network, you must set up a system as a Global
  229.                   Location Broker, too.  See Chapter 4, ``Setting
  230.                   Up Global Location Brokers and Network License
  231.                   Servers,'' of the _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _L_i_c_e_n_s_e _S_y_s_t_e_m
  232.                   _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for instructions.  After the
  233.                   Network License Server and Global Location Broker
  234.                   are set up, follow the instructions in Chapter 5,
  235.                   ``Installing Concurrent Licenses,'' of the same
  236.                   guide to install the license on the Network
  237.                   License Server.

  239.          6.  Verify that the software license has been successfully
  240.              installed.
  241.  
  242.              To verify that the software license is working, try
  243.              running WebMagic Author and accessing one of the
  244.              licensed features (i.e. Image Maps).
  245.  
  246.              If you installed a temporary license and you are
  247.              entitled to a permanent license, replace the temporary
  248.              license with a permanent license as soon as possible
  249.              to ensure uninterrupted use of WebMagic Pro Author
  250.              features.
